Is our society becoming like the wind blown chaffCandlelight Sanctuary mentioned in the First Psalm? There is evidence that it is.  In this chapter of Scripture we see the contrast of permanence in a tree planted by a river and the lack of it in the light, wind blown, chaff that is easily moved about with every breeze that blows.

A righteous man is said to be as a tree planted by the river.   As a tree puts down deep roots, grows stronger over the years, produces much fruit and weathers many storms, so goes the life of the righteous.   His is a permanent and dependable existence in his family and community.   There is no desire for adventure beyond what his senses perceive within his borders.

Psa 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

The ungodly bear the resemblance of the, wind blown, chaff.   They are easily disoriented in their thinking, changing their minds frequently or are at a loss to know how to proceed in many of life’s storms.   In general their lives are tumultuous and their behavior disruptive. They may move about from place to place, always seeking something they never find.  Happiness seems to elude them always.   The tumbleweed or the chaff exemplify their very existence.

Psa 1:4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

For all the permanence and strength the tree manifests, it is not without limitations for it must start and end its life in the exact same spot.   The rewards, however, are all too obvious. Years of growth, strength, productivity and happiness all found at the site where it all began.

Does not our present generation of young people with their lack of moral bearings and little or no appreciation for home and family show our social order to be in serious decline and our long standing values to be slipping away. Are we becoming an ungodly, wind blown, chaff society?
